County Info

This is a work in progress and by no means a complete list of everything there is to see in the state. I'm doing my best to fill this page out with relevant info as I travel around the state and enjoy finding those well-known tourist spots as well as the off the beaten path sites that illude most who are passing thru. As this list develops eventually I'll break it down into individual pages for each county with photos, info, and a more complete list of things to do, events, and historic sites located in that county.

Barbour
With a rich civil war history, Barbour county features several memorials, monuments, and historical sites scattered around the county including the longest and oldest covered bridge in West Virginia.

Here you can spend your time riding the Hatfield & McCoy trail system, enjoying local community parks, or doing a little fishing just don't go trespassing and getting any of them there fueds a going. Historic Matewan WV is one of the towns located here and was the location of the Matewan Massacre where in 1920 local UMWA miners had a shootout with Baldwin-Felts detectives.

Tucker
Tucker County is my home county and features several well-known tourist areas such as the ski slopes of Canaan Valley, Blackwater Falls in Davis, and historic downtown Thomas. The county is also home to several other nature-themed attractions such as hiking, biking, and rafting and is littered with historical markers pointing out historic events such as the Battle of Corrick's Ford where the first General was killed in the Civil War.

Annual events of note include the Pickin' in Parsons Bluegrass Festival, Leaf Peepers Festival, Parsons Firemans Carnival, Tucker County Fair, and Big Mountain Run.
