Dodge City KS
Our first stop on the 2018 road trip, Dodge City Kansas offered a glimpse back in time to the Wild West as well as some of the best steaks I've ever had.
During our stay, we put up at the Super 8 motel and began our explorations from there by first stopping at the visitors center to find out exactly what we should be trying to see while in town.
We did a quick walk around town due to it being late and most of the attractions being closed at that time and enjoyed seeing the walk of fame plaques, various statues, and historical markers.
The next morning we headed to Boot Hill Museum which is a must stop for anyone into the Wild West, Native Americans, Wyatt Earp, or Gunsmoke fans. The museum features a re-creation of an entire 1800's town, tons of artifacts, a gift shop, and a few original buildings you can explore.
Now Dodge City is the "Queen of the Cow Towns" and as such, the stockyard overlook is something we had to visit and I was determined to find a great steak while in town. I found my great locally raised steak at Casey's Cowtown Club and ate one each day we were there.
We also visited the Boot Hill Casino, walked part of the Santa Fe Trail, did a bit of antique shopping, enjoyed trying the spirits at the Boot Hill Distillery, and drove around a bit taking pictures of things before leaving town for our next destination.
When we first started our trip we had everything planned and every single day accounted for which didn't seem like much fun. In Dodge City, we decided to throw the plan away and fly by the seat of our pants in order to have more fun and keep everyone including us guessing as to where our next stop would be. The original plan was to go to Galveston Texas next and it didn't exactly happen that way.
